Paul Goerz, 73, of Basking Ridge died February 11, 2012. Paul was born in 1938 in Berlin, Germany. Paul emigrated to Long Island, NY in 1955. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He graduated from the Essex County Police Academy and for thirty-one years served as a police officer in Livingston, New Jersey where he was known as the "Colonel." As a passionate motorcyclist, he served on the motorcycle patrol and was a member of the Blue Knights and the Polar Bear Grand Tour motorcycle groups. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Central Jersey Volkswagen Society where he showed his 1974 vintage Beetle.
Here's Paul's obituary.
Some pictures and videos taken at various Polar Bear runs are shown below. Paul spent a lot of time in the parking lot talking bikes and VWs to many members. He will be greatly missed.
Long Valley 2008: This is a 1974 restored Volkswagen owned by Polar Bear member, Paul Goerz. He used it to get one point today. He was a bit under the weather today and chose not to ride. I also owned a '74 -- a white one -- but it got war-torn from teenage use. It was nice to see a good-looking '74 again even if it was wearing a "QQ" tag.
Here's a video I took called: The Bug Talks. |
